From the Principal: Stacie Sollars

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! I am excited to be working with the staff, students, and families at Garfield Elementary School this year. This year has started out like none other and will most certainly have some new experiences in store for us all. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate through this unprecedented time.

My name is Stacie Sollars and I am the Interim Principal at Garfield Elementary for this school year. I have been with Danville District 118 as a teacher and administrator for the past 17 years. I was a kindergarten and fifth grade teacher at East Park/Mark Denman Elementary School before making the move to South View Upper Elementary, where I taught fifth and sixth grade. The past two years I have been the Assistant Principal at North Ridge Middle School and am now serving as the Interim Principal at Garfield with you all. I will be working closely with Mrs. Zaayer to continue the great things already happening at Garfield, until she returns from heading up the Remote Learning Program for the district.

Our staff and students are awesome! The students amaze me with their resilience and positive attitudes. They are doing so well following safety guidelines and online etiquette each day. Our teachers have been working hard and preparing their classes for a new way of teaching and learning. Everyone is doing their part to help make this school year the best it can be.

Please read over notes that are sent home and check Class Dojo daily, as these are our primary means of communication. You should have received a note regarding updated procedures due to Covid-19. We appreciate your cooperation with this as safety is our utmost importance.

I have enjoyed meeting many of you and look forward to getting to know the rest of our Garfield families in the very near future. If you have any questions or concerns at all, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Notes from our nurse: Gabi Ingold

Dear Parent or Guardian,

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) recommends Danville District 118 send home a student if ANY of the following symptoms are present: Fever (100.4°F or higher), headache, shortness of breath, cough, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain. In addition, some individuals (especially adults) may present with the following symptoms: congestion or runny nose, new loss of sense of taste or smell, nausea, fatigue, muscle, or body aches.

Medical Evaluation and Testing are Strongly Recommended for ALL Persons with COVID-Like Symptoms.

If your child has ANY of the above listed symptoms he/she must remain home from school until one of the following is met:

• A negative COVID test result is given to the school nurse.

• Your child completes 10 calendar days of isolation from the first onset of symptoms and be fever-free for 24-hours without the use of medications and other symptoms have improved.

• A doctor’s note documenting an alternative diagnosis and be fever free for 24-hours without the use of medication and have had no diarrhea or vomiting in the last 24- hours.
