- Go to the page Key Questions, answer the questions in detail and discuss them with your supervisor.
- Go to the page ATL Skills. Read through it and think about how you will address these in the report. This information is repeated in PDF format on the resources page. It might be a good idea to print it out, stick it in your process journal and highlight areas that you think you can address throughout the project.
- Check out the project components page to see a list of everything you need to include by the end.
- Read through the investigating section. Make a research plan in your process journal which you will add to your appendix. There is an example of how to write one of these in the resources section. When doing this, you should refer to the ATL research skills so that you have a broad range of research. In the report criterion A, you are required to show excellent research skills, which starts by making a good plan.
- Do your research. You cannot really make an honest start on the design criteria, if you have not researched the topic thoroughly. Make sure that you evaluate and annotate your sources.
- Planning: Develop your criteria (specifications). Develop a thorough plan of how you are going to complete the product or outcome. A good way of doing this is to use a GANTT chart, an example of which is in the planning section.
- The biggest challenge for many of you in completing the personal project successfully is getting organised. One of the grading criteria actually addresses exactly this point: "demonstrate excellent self management skills." Of course, planning is vital to achieving a successful outcome, and there are some specific parts of the report that address this. Make sure that you read the planning section to understand the requirements. Also, read through the ATL skills page to see how you can use these to help you demonstrate self management skills in the report.
- Work on product/outcome. Refer to the Taking Action section.
- Reflection: Evaluate the quality of the product against the criteria. Reflect on learning
- Complete report and then check the report checklist to make sure you haven't missed anything.
