This year, our beautiful school celebrates its 121st anniversary on October 4, 2025. The story of Danie Malan Primary School began in 1904 when Miss M. Juby, an English lady, became the first principal of just 24 learners. As the twelfth principal of the school since 2009, it is a great privilege for me to lead 1,348 learners. As both the principal and a former learner of this school, I am incredibly proud of the traditions and character we continue to build here.
At Danie Malan, we strive to create an environment where children not only feel safe but also at home and ready to learn. We have a dedicated team of teachers who give their best every day to prepare our learners for the world ahead.
Our Grade R centre is fully equipped, with four beautiful classrooms, a tree-filled play area, and a variety of climbing equipment. Please feel free to come and see what our Grade R centre has to offer, where we use the concept of “learning through play” to make children smart in a fun and interactive way.
In academics, we participate annually in external national exams to ensure that we meet the high standards expected of us. Our Grade R-3 curriculum goes beyond the basics and is complemented with music, robotics, and Setswana classes as extra subjects. Grade 1-6 learners regularly visit our reading centre to improve their reading comprehension and speed.
We offer a wealth of sports and cultural activities. In sports, we have athletics, rugby, netball, soccer, softball, cricket, jukskei, chess, golf, and tennis. In culture, we have a junior and senior choir, junior and senior revue, orators, art competitions, and art projects. We encourage learners to participate in various activities because we believe it helps them discover their talents and passions. Our teams always perform very well, and it is a joy to see the learners’ engagement.
Our six core values—respect, care, responsibility, honesty, excellence, and integrity—are presented to our learners every day. We believe in the importance of seeing these values in action, and we make a point of actively engaging our learners in situations where they can demonstrate one of these values.
We offer a variety of fun activities, including our annual box cart, colour festival, water fun day, “boeresport” day, and watermelon festival, all of which are included in the school fees. Our school does not hold any fundraising events.
My dream and vision for 2025 is that every child will reach their full potential—whether in the classroom, on the sports field, or in cultural activities. I hope that every teacher can live out their passion and make a meaningful difference in the lives of the learners. I also wish for every parent to make time for their children, teach them values and principles, and work in partnership with the teachers. Thank you to everyone who is already making a difference—the future is in our hands. Wishing success for 2025!
