Core Purpose
To have overall responsibility for the pastoral care and academic progress of students in one year group of Key Stage 4 (Year 10 or 11). This post will commence with oversight of Year 11 from Easter 2026 followed by Year 10 from September 2026.

Main duties and responsibilities (in addition to main teaching and learning responsibilities)

General responsibilities

• Ensure a high quality of pastoral care and student support for the designated year group

• Lead and monitor student wellbeing within the year group

• Ensure high standards of behaviour and dress code are maintained within the year group

• Ensure that academic monitoring of students is carried out efficiently and effectively, in liaison with the Line Manager, the Pastoral Team and teaching staff

• Ensure the provision and monitoring of PSPs and RAMPs within the year group

• Contribute as appropriate to the provision and monitoring of student passports and IEPs in liaison with the Leader for Learner Breakthrough (SENCO) in the year group

• Ensure the effective use of Support Staff for the administration of pastoral matters within the year group

• Undertake additional tasks as directed by Line Manager

Specific responsibilities

• To encourage students to contribute positively to school community and the wider life of the college

• To contribute to the development and delivery of a structured and purposeful tutorial programme

• To monitor attainment and effort grades for the designated year group

• To oversee reports on the designated year group and review reports with students and parents

• To liaise with parents, staff and other agencies to support students 

• To deal with routine student absence, lateness and disciplinary matters

• To work with the projects and partnerships team to develop the extended curriculum experience including access to projects, industry experience for all students

• To organise appropriate careers advice and guidance for students

• To organise and run a Year 10 induction programme

• To organise the Y11 Celebration Evening (2025/26)

• Lead regular Year Group assemblies

The post holder is managed by the Vice Principal.
