Core Purpose
We have an exciting opportunity for an HR Advisor to work within the Central Services HR Team. This post works closely with colleagues based in the central office and in each of our schools to deliver a proactive, effective and efficient HR service, and to contribute proactively and effectively to the development and implementation of Trust wide initiatives.
The post holder will:
Act as a first point of contact and provide generalist HR advisory and administrative support as required to a portfolio of schools across the Trust
Build strong, trusted and proactive relationships with staff and senior leaders across the Trust
Line manage the HR Coordinators within assigned schools in conjunction with the HR Manager
Collaborate across the central HR team on projects and working practices that can enhance and improve the HR service provided to the Trust
Main Responsibilities
HR Advice and guidance:
Act as a first point of contact and provide support and guidance on first line HR matters to staff and senior leaders within our DET academies.
In conjunction with Headteachers, support the monitoring of staff absence, analysing trigger reports and providing support during informal and formal absence review meetings.
Support the performance appraisal process by providing guidance to managers and staff on setting clear goals and conducting reviews.
Advise on performance improvement plans and support management in addressing underperformance.
Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of HR policies, and associated guidance documentation / template letters, ensuring they align with current legislation and educational sector standards.
Support with TUPE transfers into and out of the Trust.
Line management of HR Coordinator(s):
Assist in hiring processes by identifying team requirements, conducting interviews, and helping onboard new employees.
Provide clear directions and support in relation to job expectations and monitor and evaluate the performance of HR Coordinator(s) in your designated schools, providing regular feedback and performance reviews.
Identify development needs and provide coaching, training, and mentoring to enhance skills for HR Coordinators in your designated schools.
Oversee recruitment activities undertaken by the HR Coordinator(s) in your designated group of schools to ensure that recruitment and selection activities are robust, well organised and compliant.
Oversee the HR Coordinator(s) in your designated group of schools in relation to new employee onboarding, including pre-employment screening, induction planning, and probation reviews.
Ensure that the Single Central Record is accurately maintained at designated schools by the HR Coordinator.
HR Administration
Undertake HR administration processes, including contract management, employee documentation, and benefits administration.
Oversee the processing of employee leaves, absences, and other time-off requests, ensuring compliance with Trust policies.
Maintain accurate and up to date employee records on the Trust’s HR and payroll system, ensuring data integrity, confidentiality and data protection standards are met.
Identify opportunities to improve efficiencies in employee lifecycle administration, including streamlining onboarding, offboarding, and employee record management processes, working closely with HR Coordinators.
Provide support in audits and reporting related to SCR, safer recruitment and HR compliance.
Participate in HR projects aimed at improving operational efficiency or employee experience within the Trust.
Prepare regular HR reports for senior leadership, including workforce metrics, turnover rates, and recruitment updates.
Assist in analysing HR data to identify trends and inform decision-making processes.
Support staff surveys to assess engagement levels and recommend improvements.
Promote employee wellbeing initiatives and encourage staff involvement.
Assist in the design and implementation of staff recognition programs to drive employee engagement.
Provide general HR support including, but not limited to, the School Workforce Census, Benefits Schemes, Payroll and Pensions.
