***PLEASE SEE THE PAGE ON THIS SITE TITLED "WHICH SHOW/S IS MY DANCER IN? If you are unsure which show your dancer is in."
You will enter the recital through the entrance to BCIT MEDFORD. We will scan your tickets, you will have your designated pick up person grab a wristband, you will be instructed on where to drop your dancer off and then find your assigned seats.
THERE IS A STRICT NO FOOD, DRINKS OR TAKING VIDEO OR PICTURES POLICY DURING THE RECITALS. There will be a professional videographer there. The DVD link of all shows is included in your ticket price.
ALL DANCERS MUST ARRIVE TO RECITAL IN THEIR FIRST COSTUME (please see the recital order on the Which Show/s is My Dancer In page) and then leave in their last costume.
A staff member will show your dancer to an assigned spot to stay during the recital.
We have dressing rooms/backstage areas with staff and LOTS of student helpers where dancers with more than one dance will be changing. Dancers waiting will either sit in a specific assigned area or will be in line waiting to dance onstage. Dancers who are changing may wear nude undergarments under their tights/costumes to feel more comfortable changing. All dressing rooms are SECURE! We have our dancers' privacy and security at top priority!
PARENTS PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR DANCER HAS ALL COSTUME PIECES (HATS, HAIR PIECES, BOWS, SHOES) WITH THEM WHEN THEY ARE DROPPED OFF. Please put your dancer's name on EVERYTHING!
Please do not give your child anything but water for backstage. Juice, snacks & make up will ruin his/her costume! If you are bringing/using a Dream Duffle please do not bring a seat/stool or any extra pieces with you. We ask that you do not bring make up, change of clothes, ETC....PLEASE ONLY BRING YOUR COSTUMES, NECESSARY SHOES, ACCESSORIES FOR YOUR COSTUMES AND WATER ONLY!!! We have limited space and time.
Parents and friends are NOT allowed to go to the dressing rooms OR holding area at intermission or at any point during the show. Dancers of all ages are changing.
EVERY PICKUP PARENT MUST HAVE A WRISTBAND NO MATTER THE AGE OF YOUR DANCER! This is to help us during drop off and pick up. The same person who signed your dancer in at drop off must pick the dancer up. DON’T FORGET YOUR WRISTBAND! Whoever is wearing the wristband is the person who is dropping the dancer off and picking the dancer up after the show. You will not be able to collect your dancer without a wristband. This is for security purposes as well.
ALL DANCERS MUST STAY BACKSTAGE WITH THE STAFF!!! Dancers are not allowed to go into the audience to watch the recital. We like to keep the recital a surprise and have an element of professionalism. Parents…if you’d like to dress up for the recital we welcome that! We love the idea of the recital being a big event and it makes the dancers feel special!!
After the recital is over, the person who has a wristband will be able to pick up their dancer (one parent per dancer to lessen the crowd picking up dancers) and everyone else will exit the audience and move towards the front lobby as we need to prepare the audience for the next show.
RECITAL DOS AND DON’TS
DO…wear lots of make up! You may feel you look silly with all the blush, red lipstick, and heavy eye make up but you’ll look beautiful on stage! This is called stage make up so the lights will enhance your features…not hide them!
DO…double check you have everything before you leave your house. You don’t want to have to drive all the way back home because you left your child’s tights and shoes at home!
DO…put student’s name on tags of all costumes. You can put headpieces, gloves, etc in a plastic zip lock bag and put your dancer’s name on the bag.
DO… prepare your costumes, accessories, and shoes the night before. Make sure you have all head pieces and tights, etc. in a clear plastic bag with the student’s name on it to ensure these pieces do not get lost.
DO…hang all tutus upside down on a hanger to get wrinkles out. Don’t try to steam or iron the wrinkles out because it may result in holes in the netting of the tutu.
DO…hem and or/fix all costumes. Hopefully this was done before picture day but if any alterations need to be done please do them. We don’t want any students falling because his/her pants are too long!
DON’T…paint your child’s nails. We try to have a uniform appearance on stage. Please no colored nail polish.
DON’T…let your child wear jewelry. We do not want it to get lost and we are trying to keep a neat, uniform appearance on stage. Students are allowed to wear tiny stud earrings however.
DON’T…wear underwear under your costume! Even if your child is wearing a tutu or long dress or even pants…underwear lines are visible and we don’t want to see Dora the Explorer undies peeking out of a ballet tutu. If your dancer has costume changes, she is allowed to wear skin tone undergarments under their costume. Bras/sports bras must be skin tone and have clear straps. Discount Dance Supply has these if you're looking!
