Dance Junction first opened in Hobart in 1978 trading as The Ballet Shop in New Town Road. It moved to its Bathurst Street location in the mid-1980s and has operated there continuously ever since. In 2004 the name was changed to Dance Junction to reflect the growing popularity of more modern dance styles. Dance Junction continues to play an important role in supporting the growth, confidence, and connection of Tasmania’s dance community.
In early 2026 Dance Junction changed hands for the first time although the store still firmly remains a family-run, small business. As the new owner, my goal is to honour Dance Junction’s traditions and community roots while guiding the store into its next chapter. I have been part of the Tasmanian dance community since the 1990s as a dancer, teacher, and parent bringing lived experience of the needs and demands of the dance world.
