Online databases are collections of highly organized, verified, and/or peer-reviewed information grouped by specific subjects or themes. They often include primary and secondary sources in many formats: journal articles, ebooks, historical documents, videos, images, newspaper and magazine articles, etc. The Library Learning Commons subscribes to or has free access to several databases listed below.

Modern World History offers a comprehensive look at world history from the mid-15th century to the present. American History Online covers the nation’s history—from prehistory to the present day—it was developed and curated by leading editors and scholars in the study of American history. It is composed of a variety of learning assets, including articles, images, primary source documents, timelines, videos, and slideshows.
Bloom’s Literature offers a comprehensive resource for the study of literature. Edited and curated by Yale University professor Harold Bloom, this database includes thousands of critical essays and discussion questions, plus author biographies and character analyses, full-length poems, the full text of hundreds of reference books, full-length videos of classic plays and films, and more.
Infobase’s Middle/High School eBook Collection gives users convenient access to more than 5,600 acclaimed eBooks from the award-winning Facts On File, Chelsea House, Ferguson’s, and Bloom’s imprints at a fraction of the cost of purchase. The Middle/High School eBook Collection is correlated to all major educational standards and includes a wide range of subjects—from ancient history and biographies, to mathematics, animals, nature, and more.
Issues & Controversies helps student researchers understand today’s crucial issues by exploring hundreds of hot topics in politics, government, business, society, education, and popular culture. Presented in a balanced, pro/con format, all articles provide essential context, supported by statistics, timelines, and primary sources. Many issues feature original videos and educator resources as well as live debates, newspaper editorials, audio content, and breaking news.
researchIT CT - Offers free online resources as a service of the CT State Library. Here you will find journal, magazine, and newspaper articles for Connecticut public, K12, and academic libraries and their users. There is also a collection of downloadable eAudios and eBooks for Connecticut residents with valid CT public library card numbers.

Infoplease Encyclopedia – This online encyclopedia includes approximately 57,000 articles from the Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition.
Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc. - This online encyclopedia allows for a limited number of free searches.
