ArtLink - Grades 4 and 5
Each year, AIS students in grades 4 and 5 create original artwork based on a theme. The theme for the 2016 - 2017 school year was "Teamwork" (see slideshow below). The theme for the 2017 - 2018 school year is "HighLight" where students will show a special event from their lives. Each student's artwork, along with an artist statement, is mailed to Creative Connections where it is translated and shipped to our partner countries. For the 2017 - 2018 school year, we are partnering with schools in The Gambia, Latvia, Japan and Mexico. Students from each of these countries will send their artwork with artist statements to us. We will compare how the students in other places depict the theme. We often discover that we are more alike than different!
Bridges of Peace and Hope
AIS has an ongoing relationship with Bridges of Peace and Hope and its founder, John Farrell. "Our mission at Bridges of Peace and Hope is to introduce young people around the globe so they can build friendships and caring communities dedicated to promoting peace, understanding and collaboration."
AIS started the first Bridge of Peace and Hope Club in the U.S.A. in the 2016 - 2017 school year. The club is currently raising money to install a gaga ball pit just like ours at AIS at the Mukwashi Trust School in Zambia, Africa. Our students will teach the students at Mukwashi how to play gaga ball via video.
