Letter from the Editor

Dear readers,

You don't need me to tell you that the past year or two have been quite difficult. Nevertheless, I feel as though it's important that we take a moment to reflect on the era of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The problems associated with social distancing, remote learning, unemployment, and more all appear to have the virus at its epicenter, and they have all touched us in some way or another. Indeed, many people have struggled and slipped into feelings of isolation, stagnation, and exhaustion.

But as the seasons change, a sense of normalcy begins to return to the world. Whether things will be the same as what existed before the pandemic remains to be seen, yet the turbulence of life from the past year appears to be subsiding. Similar to how life reappears from behind its deathly visage following the end of Winter, the students of Damien High School have started to come back to the typical routine.

Indeed, it seems somewhat appropriate that this issue of the relaunched Damien High School Arts + Literary Journal is released in the Spring. Hopefully, these works of art alongside these pieces of prose can brighten your day and be a reminder that it's not the end -- rather, it's a novel beginning and a new season. It is my sincere desire that you'll find solace in these compositions.

I'm proud of all the photographers, designers, and writers who were willing to put their work out into the world for public consumption. It takes courage to reveal something that -- to the creators -- is an integral part of their being. Everyone pours themselves into their work.

Have a great summer! - Dominic Vitz, Class of 2022
