This week, we've been continuing our learning on the Romans by learning about Boudica. We enjoyed creating factfile posters to write about who she was, why she was important and what she did.
I wonder if Skipper 3 will be able to share an interesting fact about Boudica with you?
Have a listen to this over the weekend in preparation for next week:
Recorders
This week, we also had our first recorder lesson! We learnt how to set up our recorders and how to play the note B. We then played along to a tune and produced some lovely music! We're looking forward to our next lesson soon!
¿Cómo estás?
This week, we had our first Spanish lesson! We learnt how to introduce ourselves and how to ask How are you? and to respond in six different ways. Have a practice at home ready for next week!
We've started our literacy project with a very exciting dig. We found pottery, cloth, some old mapys of Italy and paintings of volcanoes. We tried to piece all these artefacts together to work out which period of time they may have come from. We're looking forward to finding out more next week... Great job, Skipper 3!

Last half term we finished our literacy topic by making our own guides to help people venture out into the wilderness. They have sections on 'how to prepare', 'what to do in the wilderness' and they have even designed their own plant that you may come across if you're in the wild! They are beautiful and we can't wait to show you them at our next Stay and...
Since their fantastic performance in the Year 3 and 4 Christmas Carol Concert, the children have really enjoyed creating their own Guides to the Wilderness in class, based on the class text we have been looking at in literacy this half term.
We have also been creating our own Christmas decorations in D&T using our sewing skills. The children each created their own design and have brought these to life with the help of the wonderful Mrs Norris on Friday afternoons!
In science, we have just finished our learning on forces and magnetism. This week, the children planned their own experiments to compare the strength of different types of magnet.
It has been wonderful to see some of the children's home learning being brought in this week. We've had a fantastic erupting volcano, a very detailed poster on friction and a homemade ramp which was also used to experiment with friction! Thank you for all of your support at home and I'd like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas!
The children had a fantastic time in the snow yesterday! At first, in the morning, we brought the snow into the classroom and enjoyed trying to build mini snowmen and igloos! In the afternoon, we were fortunate enough to get outside and the children had the most FABULOUS time in the snow! What a joy it was to watch them!
Since the beginning of this half term, we have had a lovely couple of weeks of learning!
In maths, we've finished our learning on addition and subtraction and we've started our new unit on multiplication and division. We've started with our 3 x tables. Have a look at our Useful Links page for some ideas of activities to practise at home.
In D&T, we're finishing off our Roundhouses from last half term and have started our unit on sewing. The children will be sewing their own Christmas decorations over the next few weeks.
In topic, we have moved from history to geography. We'll be learning about Angry Earth. So far, we've looked at some countries and capitals of Europe and different compass points (N, S, E, W, NE, SE, SW, NW). Again, have a look at the Useful Links page for some activities to practise these at home.
In science, we looked at push and pull forces this week. We stretched, squashed, twisted and pulled Play-Doh using pushes and pulls and explained what he had done.
Have a lovely weekend Skipper 3!
Firstly, well done everybody on such a brilliant first half term in Year 3!
Thank you to everybody who has brought in home learning - we've been overwhelmed by such a positive response! I have absolutely loved seeing your recreations of Stone Henge and Skara Brae as well as all of your beautiful clay pots and cave drawings! You should all be extremely proud of yourselves!
We've had a lovely half term exploring so many different subjects over the curriculum. In science, we've been learning about plants, setting up our own experiments and writing about experiments
Literacy
This half term we've been reading the story 'The First Drawing'. It has made us think about our amazing imaginations which is helping us plan for our story next week. We've been trying to best describe woolly mammoths and are starting to get our heads around using fronted adverbials!
Maths
What a great start we've made into Year 3 with our maths. We're already well into our addition and subtraction topic, exploring adding two 3 digit numbers together. It's been tough but we've felt our brains growing every day and are seeing some amazing success!
Stone Age
This week we've been debating what Stonehenge was used for. We had some brilliant ideas n for our homework and everyone had their own opinions about what it could be, will we ever know?
We've had a wonderful first few weeks back at school with lots of learning across the curriculum. Thank you for all of your support with the children's home learning - we've had some wonderful drawings, cave paintings and shields brought into the classroom this month which the children have loved sharing with their classmates.
In literacy, we have delved straight into the Stone Age with our first text of the year The First Drawing. We've been using possessive apostrophes and expanded noun phrases this week in our character descriptions of the mighty woolly mammoth!
In fact, we've been exploring the Stone Age across the whole curriculum this month. In art, the children have really enjoyed creating their own cave paintings out of charcoal and pastel. In history, we've been comparing life in the Stone Age to our lives now.
In science, the children have enjoyed predicting what would happen if we took light away from cress seeds. They then set up their own experiments in pairs where we are comparing the growth of cress with and without sunlight each week! We've had some very interesing results so far!
Shortly, we'll be starting addition and sutraction in maths. I'll post any helpful links to review our learning on the Useful Links tab. Any additional practice at home, the better!
