What an incredible day we had at Lulworth Cove! The children behaved amazingly and really did Damers proud. We hope they had as much fun as all the adults did! We explored the visitor centre, beach and the viewpoint on the hill. It was a fantastic day and brilliant memory for them before they move onto Year 4.
Take a look at our 'pictures' tab to see all that we got up to on the day!
We had an amazing online session with none other than 'How to train your dragon' author Cressida Cowell. It was an incredible session that the children really enjoyed. She spoke really honestly about struggling to concentrate at school which was nice to hear from a very famous author!! You can rewatch the whole session on the link below:
We had an amazing rugby session at the end of Healthy Week. We learned so many skills, particularly working as a team!! It was tough and we were tired after but it was great to practise passing skills with a professional!
Take a look at our 'pictures' tab to see us enjoying our session.
For many of us 'squash' was a sport we knew very little of! Not any more, we had some fantastic volunteers come in to teach us a little about this amazing sport. Hitting balls off the walls in school is very unusual but highly exciting! Some children even said they were going to continue by trying out at the Squash club in Dorchester!
As we finish our science topic of animals, incliding humans, we've been exploring how our skeletons are useful to support our bodies and also to protect our organs. We've been learning some very technical names, why not ask your child which bones they can remember!!
We made some delicious wholemeal pita pizzas on Tuesday. We had a selection of vegetables the children could choose from for their toppings. Lots of people tried something they don't usually eat!
During healthy week we've had some amazing experiences and tried lots of new sports. We started the week with yoga. It was a brilliant experience and we found the relaxation at the end really effective. Have a look at our pictures tab for more photos of our practise.
Words cannot express how proud we are of Meadow 3 (and all of Year 3's) production. They came together to support each other and worked so hard on all aspects of their performance. We hope you enjoyed watching it us much as us!! Have a look in our 'pictures' tab to see individual costume photos!
We have been blown away by the results of our spelling, punctuation and grammar tests last half term. They were absolutely outstanding and show how hard the children have been working on their grammar! We can't wait to see how much more you will learn this term!
In literacy we have been reading 'Black Dog' by Levi Pinfold. In the book we explore fear and what it means to be scared. Meadow 3 started the topic by writing some sentences about fear. Here are a few examples for you to read... if you dare!
"Fear is ghosts whispering in the dead of night."
"Frightened is a murder of crows squawking above your head."
"Threatened is a dentist drilling in your mouth."
"Terrified is spiders crawling down your back."
"Fear is death hovering over you"
We had an amazing day on World Book Day filled with lots of incredible vocabulary. Have a look at our 'pictures' tab to see all our amazing costumes!
Last half term we had a brilliant session with National Rail all about staying safe near train lines. It was brilliant to see the children talking about the risks and how they can protect themselves and those around them.
What an incredible Roman Day we had! We really explored what it meant to be a Roman and live in their sandals for the day!
Have a look at our 'Pictures' tab to see us making some mosaics.
What an amazing day we had celebrating all things number!!!

Enjoy this horrible histories song about Boudicca
You may have noticed more times tables certificates coming home recently. We've been pushing our times tables work recently and Meadow 3 are rising to the challenge.

We've been so impressed with how much we have learned in multiplication these last few weeks. We've made some posters to explain the process of column multiplication. See if you can have a go at home.
We've started on our musical journey with recorders. So far we've learned how to hold the recorder, how to play the note 'B' and what to do when we are not using our recorder. Hopefully it won't be long before we're playing a tune for you!
We've started our literacy project with a very exciting dig. We found pottery, cloth and some old Italy maps and paintings of volcanoes. I wonder what it all means?
Have a look on our pictures tab to see what we dug up!
We've been exploring the colour wheel this week. We started with our three primary colours: red, yellow and blue. Then we mixed those to create our secondary colours: green, orange and purple. Then we explored the tertiary colours - mixing the a primary colour with a secondary. It was great fun seeing the small changes in colour we could make.
Last half term we finished our literacy topic by making our own guides to help people venture out into the wilderness. They have sections on 'how to prepare', 'what to do in the wilderness' and they have even designed their own plant that you may come across if you're in the wild! They are beautiful and we can't wait to show you them at our next stay and...
This half term we've been learning to sew and creating a decoration from our designs. We hope you enjoy yours when it comes home. They have worked REALLY hard on these and they all look super. Take a look in the pictures section for some photos of us with our sewing.
We've had such a busy week practising our songs and readings for our Carol Concert. Please continue to practise the words and songs at home - see our google classroom for more.
In our maths we're concentrating on 3, 4 and 8 times tables and the relationship between them. All through this year we'll be making sure we're really confident on these times tables by playing games and having quizzes.
This half term we're looking at magnets and forces in science. We started our topic by thinking about what forces are used to move pieces of paper. We pulled the paper towards us and blew the paper to push it away. This demonstrated the difference between push and pull forces.

This half term we've been reading the story 'The First Drawing'. It has made us think about our amazing imaginations which is helping us plan for our story next week. We've been trying to best describe woolly mammoths and are starting to get our heads around using fronted adverbials!
This week we've been debating what Stonehenge was used for. We had some brilliant ideas n for our homework and everyone had their own opinions about what it could be, will we ever know?
MATHS
What a great start we've made into Year 3 with our maths. We're already well into our addition and subtraction topic, exploring adding two 3 digit numbers together. It's been tough but we've felt our brains growing every day and are seeing some amazing success!
In our DT topic this half term we have been thinking about structures. We have looked at the structures around our school grounds and those that have been used throughout history. We decided to do an experiment to see which shape made the strongest support for a structure. Ask us the result!
In our Science topic this half term we are exploring what conditions plants need to grow. As a group we were able to name the main 5: Light, water, air, space to grow and nutrients. We asked the question "What would happen if we took one of these conditions away?". We were really curious to see if a plant would still grow if we took away light - so we set up our test. One pot stayed on the windowsill with everything it could need to grow (including light), and one went into a dark cupboard (but with all other variables). We were astounded by the results, some people in the class had predicted the one in the cupboard might grow tall as it looks for light, but we couldn't believe it was 3 times taller! Our next lessons will be exploring why the one in the dark isn't green!
