The arrival of a dragon egg caused much excitement in Year 4. We went outside to look for evidence of dragon activity and indeed a dragon hunter!
After much research we have become dragonologists and written our own dragon reports.
During our art lessons we have been creating our own dragon eyes by using repeated patterns and shades of colour.
In science this term we are looking at animals including humans. We have started to look at the digestive system. First we had great fun drawing round Lucas and putting all the organs in the correct places!
Our history project for this term is World War Two.
We have introduced this through the book "The Lion and the Unicorn" by Shirley Hughes. We are doing lots of acting in the role of Lenny and writing letters from his perspective as well as reminding ourselves about the use of conjunctions!
Place Value
In numeracy, we have been revising and developing our skills at place value.
Can you sort out this tricky problem?
In science we are beginning to look at electricity. We had a fabulous visitor Tracy, from https://www.earthenergyeducation.com/home talking to us about renewable and non-renewable energy. We had great fun creating circuits that light up bulbs and power motors from different light sources.
We also learnt that we have electricity in our own bodies!
We have been researching the measures put in place to help keep Britain safe during WW2.
We worked with a partner and created a poster to help share our information.
We found out about the blackout, different types of shelters, gas masks and the Blitz. Did you know that bombs were dropped on London for 57 nights in a row!
This week we have started our multiplication topic in numeracy.
This is in addition to the times tables practise that we already do. By the end of Year 4 the children should know all of the times tables up to 12x12, giving the answer within 6 seconds. Please help as much as you can with this. As well as using ttrock stars, the link below will takes you to another times table site where the children can play games.
The KS2 carol concert is fast approaching. This year it will be at St Mary's Church, which is a slightly bigger venue.
Please keep practising all of the songs. The links to the music are on google classroom.
In science our topic is electricity.
We have been experimenting with making circuits in different ways.
We connected different numbers of batteries, bulbs and crocodile clips to see if we could still make a complete circuit.
We use lamps to generate light energy and make the bulb light up.
Carol Concert
What an amazing carol concert! You sang beautifully and spoke your lines with expression, enthusiasm and loud voices. Well done everybody, we are very proud of you all.
Merry Christmas everyone.
Our visit to the tank museum in Bovington was brilliant. We got scared in the trenches, crawled through tunnels, bought groceries in a shop and stood inside a tank. We tried on soldiers jackets, learned how to march, solute and listened to an air raid siren.
The staff running the activities commented on our impeccable behaviour, attitude and super knowledge.
