Hello everyone! My name is Allison Kleistberg, and I am a 4th grade teacher at CDS. I am an elementary school teacher from Montreal, Canada. I studied history and education during my undergrad at McGill University and received my MS in Education from Walden University. I’ve taught various grades ranging from kindergarten to grade 5.
Each student is a unique individual who has unique interests, learning styles, and needs. I strive to maintain a classroom that is student-centred and inclusive. I encourage my students to embrace their differences while empowering them to reach their potential. A classroom where students feel safe, welcomed, and valued, fosters a community and a passion for learning.
Outside of school, I enjoy going to art exhibitions and museums. I also have quite a sweet tooth, so you might also find me exploring the infinite cafés Korea offers.
I’m super excited to be part of the CDS community!
Who I am? Why am I here? Where am I going?
I am from New Orleans, Louisiana in the USA. Where I’m from, we live by the motto, “Laissez les bons temps rouler!” which means, “Let the good times roll!”
I love having fun and enjoying life to its fullest every day. I am insatiably curious and always looking to learn, grow, and improve!
I’ve been living and teaching in South Korea for over a decade, with four of those years teaching in an international school. I am happily married and the mother of two fabulous kids, Cosette and Odell, a dog, Eunbi, a cat, Doobie. On weekends, if I am not coaching, you’ll find me either deep in a book, writing, painting, cafe hopping, picnicking, enjoying family bike-rides, hiking, or sunset chasing. I'm one of the lucky few who can say that my greatest dreams in life have come true!
I am always on the lookout for the next adventure, and this year is it! ☺
I have long believed that being a teacher is a privileged opportunity to inspire and empower the next generation of globally competent citizens ready to take on the world. My class is filled with movers, shakers, and innovators, with every child capable of mastery through connection and confidence. I work hard to cultivate an environment where learning is inquiry-based, collaborative, and meaningful. My classroom culture invites growth, celebrates diversity, and believes in the power of "yet." I am especially passionate about integrating movement into lessons to enhance learning, and using evidence-based methods to guide assessment and instruction.
Learning is a continuous and joyous journey best nurtured by wonder and evolution. As the navigators of their academic odysseys, students are valued as active participants and cartographers of their learning paths. My framework for learning revolves around helping students answer three essential questions they carry with them throughout their lives:
1.) Who am I? 2.) Why am I here? 3.) Where am I going?
By focusing on these questions, I aim to foster a love for lifelong learning, guiding my students to become confident, empathetic and well-rounded individuals ready to explore and contribute to humanity.
