2020-21

PBIS: Year 3

We are now in our third year of implementing PBIS and Restorative Justice in the CDS MS. Though we originally planned on having the year start physically in person, we had to quickly change to E-Learning once again. Though it is difficult to meet new students and form a strong bond over online classes, we encouraged and promoted tools for teachers to keep a positive environment and to make the most out of the situation.

ELearning RISE Refresher 2020-21

RISE Refresher

As we began the 2020-21 school year online, we created a RISE lesson for online learning. We briefly introduced what each behavior expectation means and gave students some scenarios to identify how RISE was demonstrated or was not demonstrated. With many new students this year, we wanted to emphasize how to promote positive behavior in our community.

Lunch Protocols

As Term 1 continues, we have had the opportunity to have students on campus. One of the main concerns for keeping safety protocols is during lunch, as students must remove their mask at this time. We have set in place that students "Eat. Mask on. Tray up. Sit back down. and Talk! (With your masks on!)."

Self-Advocacy

This fall, our school is focused on learning about self-advocacy. We have recognized that some students struggle with initiating the help that they need or standing up for themselves. Whether it means encouraging students to reach out to a teacher for help or encouraging students to have the boldness to speak out to others who might make them uncomfortable. By teaching students about this skill, we hope our students can take more action in advocating for themselves!
