Students will physically return to school and engage in traditional classroom instruction under guidelines found within the DASD Reopening Health and Safety Plan Summary.
DAIS will comply with mandates from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the PA Department of Health and implement social distancing as practicable.
At this time, face coverings will be required based on the current state mandates with the exception of students who have specific face covering 504/IEP exemptions.
Bus riders will be unloaded at 8:15 and go straight to their homerooms.
Car drop-off is at 8:15 in the Yellow Community and will include one-way traffic.
Bike riders/walkers will be permitted to enter the building at 8:15 am.
At 8:15 am, students should report to breakfast (if needed) then directly to their homeroom.
We will be limiting the number of outside visitors and volunteers to our campus.
Staff and students are expected to self-screen for symptoms of illness prior to entering the building each day and stay home when symptoms are present.
*Please note that this is a preliminary plan and could change based on the number of students who choose option one.
Per The Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Public Health Guidance Regarding COVID-19 for Phased Reopening of PreK-12 Schools, “Children two years and older are required to wear a face covering unless they have a medical or mental health condition or disability, documented in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act or IDEA, that precludes the wearing of a face covering in school. Accommodations for such students should be made in partnership with the student's health care provider, school nurse, and IEP/504 team.” Note: Initially, the guidance from the state provided parents the option to opt-out their student from wearing a face covering without providing documentation. However, medical documentation is now required.
Face coverings, such as masks and/or face shields, must be worn by students, faculty, staff, and visitors while on school property.
Students must wear face coverings when using district transportation (buses, vans, etc.).
Opportunities to have face covering breaks throughout the day will provided as appropriate levels of social distancing allow.
Students will be educated on face covering requirements, in addition to all safety procedures, regarding the reopening.
Hallway transition times will be monitored and adjusted on an as-needed basis
Lockers will not be utilized at the start of the school year
Water fountains will be closed to students and staff. The district is working to add additional water bottle filling stations. Thank you to our PTO for providing several stations last year and more this year.
Student desks will face the same direction and will be spaced out to the maximum extent possible, based on the number of students in the class (we anticipate about 4.5 feet and hope to increase that when possible)
Hand washing stations will be available in each classroom.
Unnecessary furniture and soft furnishings will be removed from classrooms.
Classroom doors will remain open as feasible in order to minimize touch points and increase air flow.
Classroom windows will be opened when feasible for increased air flow.
The sharing of common classroom materials will be minimized.
Sample classroom spacing with 25 students.
*Class sizes will vary based on student registration and family selection of
Options 1, 2, or 3.
To reduce the number of touch points throughout the day, students will use a touchless checkout to purchase lunch rather than keying in their student number.
The cafeteria will continue to be cashless. Parents are encouraged to add funds to their child’s account by writing a check or using MySchoolBucks online.
Student seating will be provided in the cafeteria and limited to every other seat when possible.
Wildcat Remote Learning will be much different than what was offered last spring.
Wildcat Remote Learning features live DAIS teachers working with students online with the Dallastown Curriculum.
Wildcat Remote learning strives to offer the most seamless transition back to brick and mortar classrooms.
Students will be expected to log on at scheduled times to meet with their teachers during the school hours of 8:40-3:15.
Students will complete similar work to what is occurring in the brick and mortar classrooms.
Learning support and general differentiation will be provided to meet individual needs.
Students will be held to expectations and grading practices similar to that of the brick and mortar classrooms.
Your student’s teachers will be available for assistance as needed.
Students will engage remotely in a full-time cyber education offered through the Edgenuity online learning platform.
Self-paced learning activities daily aligned with the DASD District Calendar
