May is water safety

Challenge MONTH

Presented by City of Dallas Aquatics in conjunction with the

Dallas ISD Health and Physical Education Department

Water Safety Challenge

International Water Safety Day is observed annually on the third Saturday in May. This day is dedicated to educating parents and children about water safety.

Before Memorial Day Weekend and the start of summer, it is an opportunity for families to learn the importance and benefits of learning to swim.

Dallas ISD Elementary School students and their families are encouraged to participate in this program so that they can ENJOY themselves safely, in and around the water this summer.

The challenge consists of 5 different activities, each one focused on a different water safety topic.

Join Coach Carrie as she leads you through each water safety lesson, complete the challenge at the end of each video, and submit your results to info@dallasaquatics.org or on our Facebook Page. Everyone who completes the challenge and submits their results by the end of May will receive a Dallas Aquatics swag bag.

There are 5 lessons that cover specific safety topics. Each topic is presented as a rhyme that will help students remember the water safety rule being taught. Click on the titles below to access the lesson/video:

The American Red Cross Longfellow’s WHALE Tales lessons teach children about water safety in different environments, such as pools, waterparks, oceans, lakes and rivers. It teaches them about water hazards around the home and neighborhood and covers sun safety, boating safety and much more.
