Attendance for Credit

90% Attendance Rule

According to Texas State law, each student must be in attendance 90 percent of the days the class is offered.


0 - 4 absences/per class period/per semester

= 90% attendance MET


5 or more absences/per class period/ per semester

= Less than 90% attendance


Credit will be denied for not meeting 90% attendance requirement EVEN IF student is passing class with 70 or better.


Student must be be passing class with 70 or better AND attends Principal's Plan to make up seat time to qualify for credit restoration.


Absences that count towards the “90 Percent Rule”:

E – Excused Absence

Exemption: Medical-based excused absences with valid documentation

U – Unexcused Absence

Truancy, non-school activities and vacations

O – Out-of-School Suspension
