Concerts are an important part of the grading, evaluation, and development process in orchestra class. We will have several required performances throughout the school year so please make sure to stay up to date on the Orchestra Events Calendar and plan your personal schedules carefully so you don't double-book yourself.
All students are required to attend and participate for the concerts in which their group performs.
Each concert is vital to a student’s musical development and each student is an important member of the orchestra team. The absence of one performer can make a huge impact on the success of the group.
Dates for performances are listed in the Orchestra Events Calendar page of this site. If exact information is not listed, please check back closer to the event for when those detailed have been published
If a student misses a concert, they are expected to perform their concert music in class to make up their performance grade.
Concert attendance is highly encouraged and will help students to grow as musicians and performers. It will also be fun! Please plan to attend and participate in our group orchestra performances planned for elementary students.
Orchestra members will be required to wear their formal orchestra uniform for district performances such as UIL, All-City, and All-Region performances. The guidelines for this uniform are based on DISD guidelines for orchestra and are designed to positively contribute to the overall impression and success of the orchestra in all of its public performances.
Varsity students should plan to acquire their performance clothing as soon as possible as we will have our first performance in October at Sudie
A good rule to remember for orchestra is “white on top and black on bottom” and "no tennis shoes or jeans"
The concert uniform will not change year-to-year at Sudie and will likely be the same in high school. If you have your uniform from last year (and it still fits), please feel free to use it again!
This same uniform may also be worn at district and audition-based performances such as All-City, All-Region, UIL events, as well as live auditions such as Young Strings.
Students in all other orchestra groups should plan to have this formal uniform if you are accepted into either the DISD All-City or Region 20 All-Region Orchestra
