Go to settings in a specific Classroom
In settings, scroll down and hit "link"
Find the class you want on the drop down menu. Every class you have in Powerschool should appear.
When you link, students on that roster will get an inivation to join this classroom.
Note: if a student gets added to the roster after you link them, it does not automatically update. You can give them the code. If you go to add them manually (see below), you can either enter their ID number or click "import from SIS" and it will check for new students. When you push it, it checks for new students in this class and asks if you want to send them an invitation. You still have to check their names.
You still need to manually remove students from their old section.
Rosters should now be identical!
First, you have to make sure the grading categories are the same both places.
Go back to Settings.
Make sure this class is LINKED to a class in Powerschool (See above)
Scroll down to the "grading" section. You do NOT need to designate grading periods, grading scales, or draft grades unless you find any of that useful.
You can also chose whether or not to have Google Classroom calculate an overall grade (I turn this off--I don't add every assinment into power school and I don't want the "overall grades" to be different.)
Keep scrolling until you get to grade categories. This is the part that is required--the systems need to see the same categories. It's best to just import them from SIS so that you know they are the same.
There may be some weird ones here, like "PK-1 Assessments". Hit the X to delete those. They are for Kindergarden. Also, if you see the old classwork/homework category, delete that. The ones you use should be identical to these.
You can also have other categories and use those in Google Classroom but you can't export those assignments to Power School.
Next, set up the assignment in Google Classroom. You don't have to have a due date, but it will export it along with the assignment if you do.
The topic can be anything--you don't have to match Power School. SO "Unit 1" or "Daily Writing" or whatever.
The Grade category needs to be one of the 4 official ones from Power school.
Grade and return assignments to students. Grades will not export if they haven't been returned.
[Returned grades go from green to blue].
If you had Google Classroom assign a default grade to missing assignments, they still have to be returned by you before they can be exported. (You can select "All students" or "All assigned" to do this in bulk).
Once assignments are returned, click "export to SIS" and it exports them into Powerschool.
Google Classroom will create the assignment with the same due date and grade category, and fill in the scores. If a student doesn't have a grade, it leaves it blank. You don't have to do anything on the PowerSchool side.
If you update the grades in Google Classroom later (like late work or test corrections), you just hit the export button again and it will re-do the process.
It will also give you an error report if any don't upload (for example, if a student is still in your Google Classroom but not in Power school. If you click on the drop down menu, you can always see what happened in the last export and get details.
This whole process is really very easy and almost makes it so you don't have to use Power school at all except to pull reports about final grades.
In an assignment page, select the students you want to give the same grade to. You could click the "turned in" box to select that whole group, or select individual students.
Once you select some students, the "Return" button goes dark so that you can select it. Don't click the big button--click the drop down arrow.
From the drop down, select "Bulk Grade"
And enter the grade you want to give all the selected students.
If you click "override existing grades" it will replace them.
If you use "override existing grades" and "automatically return after grading", when the "return assignments" page comes up you have the opportunity to send duplicate private comments to everyone. This could be like "I will accept this assignment late until end of day on Friday" or "the retest will be during my office hours Thursday only" or whatever.
