Five Finger Rule for a "Just Right" book (from Goldiesocks and the Three Libearians by Jackie Hopkins)
Choose a book you think you will enjoy.
Read a page.
Hold up a finger for each word you are not sure of, or don't know.
If there are 4 or 5 words you don't know, you should choose an easier book. If it's 0 or 1 word you don't know choose a more challenging book. If there are only 2 or 3 words you don't know, the book is "just right".
