Dallas ISD Learning by Design Framework
Technology has changed the dynamics of today’s classroom. The learning environment is no longer confined to a single classroom where lecture and transfer of knowledge happens from the front of the classroom. Technology creates opportunities for student-centered learning. With tools, such as learning management systems, educational cloud services, digital content and mobile technology, students can develop learning pathways to match their circumstances and learning styles. This target area focuses on modernizing systems, pedagogy and practices infused with technology, in support of the Dallas ISD Learning by Design framework.
Motivate and inspire students with learning experiences that are culturally inclusive, relevant, and ethical. Students recognize the rights, responsibilities and opportunities of living, learning and working in an interconnected digital world, and they act and model in ways that are safe, legal and ethical (ISTE, Digital Citizen).
Students define goals and develop a plan for success as they leverage technology to take an active role in choosing, achieving and demonstrating competency in their learning goals, informed by the learning sciences (ISTE, Empowered Learner).
Students seek new knowledge through productive struggle and develop and employ strategies for understanding and solving problems in ways that leverage the power of technological methods to develop and test solutions (ISTE, Computational Thinker/ Global Collaborator)
Developing and validating flexible, novel solutions, students use a variety of technologies within a design process to identify and solve problems by creating new, useful or imaginative solutions (ISTE, Innovative Designer).
By deploying knowledge and skills to relevant situations, using digital tools to construct knowledge, students produce creative artifacts and make meaningful learning experiences for themselves and others (ISTE, Knowledge Constructor).
Pursuing constructive feedback with a focus on goal progression, students use digital tools to broaden their perspectives and enrich their learning by collaborating with others and working effectively in teams locally and globally (ISTE, Global Collaborator and Creative Communicator).
Today’s students must be prepared to thrive in a constantly evolving technological landscape. The ISTE Standards for Students are designed to empower student voice and ensure that learning is a student-driven process.
