Ms. Newton's mighty eagles

What is SEL Education?

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

About me

Hello,

My name is Meagan Newton and I am an Alumni of Dallas Independent School District. As I grew up in the David W. Carter feeder pattern, my parents taught me the importance of education and passing knowledge to the younger generation. I continued my education in Criminology and Psychology at Texas A&M University-Commerce in which I received a Bachelor of Science in 2001. During the aftermath of 9/11, I decided to become a special education teacher in which I taught for 15 years. I received my Masters in Science degree in Counseling at Texas A&M-Commerce in 2012 and became a school counselor.

I love the counseling profession and being with students. As educators, it is our passion to guide our students the way to success. We also learn from our students through exploration and interactions. It is always my joy watching my students grow emotionally and academically.

As we soar through the 2020-2021 school year, together we will fly to new heights!
