TO BE "GOOD" IS TO BE AN ENEMY OF GREATNESS
Class Overview
Welcome to English 1 here at Hillcrest High School and Collegiate Academy. You've reached the first stop on your high school journey. In addition to being your teacher, I am the quartermaster that will navigate you to the next level. In my class, we will develop, sustain and enhance our reading, speaking, writing, and thinking skills by analyzing fiction, non-fiction, poetry, informational and other texts.
We will further cultivate our reading, writing and thinking skills through various assignments and discussions as it will develop students into effective communicators. As an avid reader and writer, I plan to implement a love for reading and learning in my classroom as we deeply dive into the meaning and purpose behind simple and complex material. About Me
Welcome! My name is Mr. Caston and I am excited that you are in my class for this year. I am originally from Jackson, MS but I grew up in Las Vegas, NV. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Las Vegas Nevada and my masters degree from Southern Methodist University here in Dallas. I am also a US Navy Veteran.
I come from a long line of educators and I am excited to be your teacher for the 23-24 school year. I am a firm believer that while learning is challenging, it can also be fun. I also believe that the only difference between success and failure are the choices we make. As we embark on this journey, I encourage you to choose the path to success and allow myself and the rest of our Panther teachers to be your guide!
For My Parents
I count it an honor and a privilege to have your child in my class. As an educator and father I understand the challenge of being a parent and wanting your child to be successful. High school is and can be fun but it is also an obstacle, especially freshmen year. Your child and I will need your support. Here is what I want you to know:
I will challenge, motivate, encourage, develop and uplift your child to do and be their best.
Respect is a two way street in my classroom.
Honest and transparency are my policy.
My class is a safe haven
I believe in all of my students and success is an expectation
If you have any questions or concerns you can find my contact information on my schedule. Thank you for sharing your child with me. Here's to a great year!
