Ms. Liesel TERMIN
AP US HISTORY/HIST 1301-1302
Hello everyone,
I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to be your AP U.S. History and Dual Credit US History teacher this year. My name is Liesel Termin, and I'm here to guide you through a dynamic exploration of the history of the United States. This course is not just about memorizing names and dates; it's about understanding the complex narrative of our nation, the people who shaped it, and the ideas that have defined it.The focus of the course will include elements of the college curriculum, including a research paper, the AP US History coursework and exam, as well as the STAAR EOC exam. The EOC is currently scheduled for April 26th and the AP test will be on May 10th.
As I will be your facilitator in learning American History, I am sure you would like to know a bit about me. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Classical Studies and a Master’s degree in History. I am also currently in the process of getting dual credentialed in Humanities, so expect to have me as a Humanities 1302 instructor next year if you are not currently enrolled in the course. I have varied interests in art, history, archeology, literature, and politics, and even plan family vacations around those interests. My children grudgingly love it. Speaking of family, I am married with three children; my son Ethan is a sophomore, my daughter Madeleine is a freshman, and my daughter Vivienne is a first grader. I also have two dogs and three cats, so my home life is always exciting.
As we delve into this rich tapestry of American history, we'll be uncovering the stories of pioneers and rebels, leaders and activists, inventors and thinkers – all of whom have left an indelible mark on the course of our nation's journey. From the founding of the colonies to the challenges of the present day, we'll analyze the political, social, economic, and cultural forces that have shaped our country's evolution.
Our classroom will be a space for lively discussions, critical thinking, and the exploration of different perspectives. I encourage each of you to engage with the material, question assumptions, and develop your own interpretations of history. Through primary sources, documents, and in-depth analysis, we'll work together to paint a comprehensive picture of America's past.
I'm not just here to be your instructor; I'm here to be your partner in learning. I'm committed to providing you with the support you need to excel in this challenging course. Feel free to ask questions, participate actively, and share your insights – because your contributions are what will make our journey through history truly rewarding.
I believe that studying the history of our nation is not only intellectually stimulating but also deeply relevant to the world we live in today. By understanding where we come from, we can better comprehend the issues and opportunities that lie ahead. So, let's embark on this educational adventure together, with an open mind and a thirst for knowledge. Thank you, and I can't wait to see all that we'll achieve this year.
