Mr. Pherozesha Sidhwa started a tile manufacturing unit along with nephew Rustom, and friend Jamshed. And in 1922, The Bharat Flooring Tile Company was born.
World War II. Cement only for defence purposes! Bharat Tiles closed, but the owners started India's first grinding wheel company in their Uran factory.
DAKA name was arose for its 2 founder people, (DA) from Mr. Daruwala and (KA) from Mr. Kaufman.
DAKA was started to manufacture adhesive bonds for Grindwell Abrasives. Its first and lifelong employee was Mr. Judah David, the first General Manager of the company.
Mr. David was from the British Navy at that time and brought tremendous discipline with him. The factory was in Thane, beside the creek.
There was no ceramic know-how available in the country at that time so Mr. Pherozesha urged his daughter Mrs. Almitra H. Patel and got her admission into Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts where she studied and got her masters in ceramics in 1959. After she came back she spent next 6 years in R&D of Grindwell, testing and managing the bonds. And thereafter she took over its management.
In late 1960s, we were approached by one of our Grindwell's customer Kirloskar in Harihar, asking if we could produce import substitute for import refractory materials.
We started by developing the product with the help of Professor of IIT Kanpur, and became one of the first companies to manufacture dry powder ramming mass.
In 1982, we registered the entity in Companies Act, 1956 in the name of Daka Company (Ceramic & Chemplast) Private Limited.
In 1991, when there was no member from Patel family to continue the business so they managed to hand it over to new company Daka Monolithics Private Limited.
Daka Monolithics Private Limited was mainly owned by two people who had become the part of the Daka Family. One was Mr. Hillel Judah, son of Mr. Judah David and another was sales manager Mr. Parameswaran. They were appointed as the first directors of the company. (Unfortunately Mr. Parameswaran is now no more with us)
In 1992, Daka decided to start its new project near the source of raw material.
Commissioning of Manufacturing Unit in Beawar, Rajasthan was one of the important milestones in the history of DAKA. Beawar unit helped the company to maintain consistant quality more effeciently.
Mr. Prakash Ambure became the first manager at Beawar manufacturing unit.
In 1997, new project for manufacturing was started to cater on growing orders for our premium quality product.
As we keep improving our products and technologies, we remember our roots and our journey.
