Questioning Questions

Both our students and our teachers have grown up in a cultural background of rote learning. Teaching and learning therefore often involves exchange of notes between teachers and students. Such an educational culture does not incorporate the development of critical thinking in the subject - something that employers need and demand. However, changing a life-time mind set of the "notes" culture is not easy - for the majority of students, rote (memorizing) is the only form of learning. In an attempt to affect a change in this background, this website is dedicated to the process of developing a students' involvement in critical thinking through a step-by-step questioning method launched in a face-to-face class ending up with online collaboration between students to tackle the remaining gaps in understanding a lecture.

To introduce the step-by-step questioning methodology to the teachers of Daffodil International University (DIU) three workshops with those interested were held in the three campuses of MC, UC & PC. The teachers themselves designed an incremental questioning method. These teachers will now start to launch the method in their own classes and also share their questions in this website subject lesson by lesson.

The purpose of the website is four-fold:

1. To provide an online space for the teachers to share and refer to their questions, as well as give feedback

2. To follow the changes in the students' attitude and learning as the methodology is introduced into the classes.

3. To provide a theoretical background for the Questioning Questions Teaching Methodology.

4. To be used as a reference for teachers unfamiliar with the methodology.
