Unit Outcomes:

  1. Distinguish between element, compound, and mixtures in words, diagrams, and properties

  2. Describe the periodic table in terms of groups/periods, metal/nonmetal, and group names

  3. Describe the properties of metals and nonmetals, including the attraction of electrons to a positive core.

  4. Describe the evidence that supports the idea that the simple particles have a property we call charge. (Explain sticky tape lab with what happens to metals and non metals)

  6. Given the formula of an ionic or covalent substance, state its name.

  7. Given the name of ionic or covalent substance, write its formula.

  8. From the name or formula of a substance determine whether that substance is ionic or covalent.
