Reading/Language Arts

We finished our last unit of our Schoolwide Reading Curriculum. We worked on our Poetry Unit of Study. In this unit, we worked on exploring and discovering what poets write about and how they organize their books and collections. We looked at different characteristics of poetry. We also analyzed the poems looking at different elements of each poem.

We continued with our End of the year Schoolwide ABC Days. We had Lei Day, Magic School Bus Day, Nature Day, Ocean Day, and Play Day. Please check your sheet at home daily to see what is coming up next.

Writing

In Writing, we are practicing sentences in Informational form. Please practice writing at home using correct letter formation, capitalization, and punctuation. This will help us to form good habits now that will help us as writing gets harder.

Fundations

In Fundations, we finished  our last unit of the school year- Unit 14. In this Unit, we  worked on the following concepts:

-Review of word structure and concepts

-Review sentence construction and proofreading

-Review narrative vs. informational text

Math

In Math, we continued with Unit 5 on Geometry. In this Unit, we will work on identifying, describing, constructing, sorting  2-D and 3-D shapes. We will be learning all about their attributes. We will also be learning about fractions. Please continue to practice counting by 1's, 2's, 5's, and 10's at any given number at home along with adding/subtracting. Please practice counting money and telling time to the hour and half hour as well.

Share A Good Book

SHARE A GOOD BOOK will continue next week. SHARE A GOOD BOOK is where I assign children to bring in a short book to share with the class. This book can be a book from the school library, public library, or home. This allows the children to practice getting in front of their peers. Please make sure your child practices the book at home until they can read the book with few trouble-spots. This develops the self-confidence in their reading skills.
