Week of 4-23-18

1. 4-23-18: complete all questions marked as QUIZ on google class rooms, ALL CLASSES. You will need your books. Next, please finish all work from last week if you have not. It is due Tuesday. Turn in on google classrooms. No work, no grade. Chapter 1-6 summary due 4-27-18 on google classrooms.

2. 4-24-18: Take down Unit two vocabulary Greek/Latin root words. You must take note if they are Greek or Latin, the definition, part of speech, and how we use them in a sentence. Begin doing lessons 1-3. If you finish, read the Giver and ANNOTATE! Chapters 1-6 DUE FRIDAY 4-27-18

3. 4-25-18: Go over lessons 1-3 of Greek and Latin words. Complete word wall illustration.

4. 4-26-18: Complete Rest of Unit two Greek and Latin Words. Create a kahoot and share it with me!!!!!!! TEST next WED!

5. 4-27-18: Today, as long as your work is complete, you will watch a portion of The Giver. You will take notes on how the movie and the book are different and similar. use details and be specific. This will be used for an essay next week. SHARE with me on google docs.

Utopia vs Dystopia

Week of 4-17-18

1. 4-16-18: complete, your Greek/Latin Unit 1 Test. then read chapters 1-3. Annotate all chapters.

2. 4-17-18: finish test if need be. answer Questions for chapters 1-2. Choose 3 to answer in RACE format. All answers must be complete answers. TURN in on GOOGLE classrooms.

3. 4-18-18: Please read and take notes on what Utopia and Dystopia are from Power Point at the left. Notes due in google classrooms

4. 4-19-18: Read the essay below, annotate it. Find the following: 1. Your definition of Utopia and Dystopia. 2. What are the characteristics of these two types of societies as found in the article? 3. What characteristics are most present in The Giver? Why do you feel this way? provide evidence from the book and article to support you Claim.

5. 4-20-18: Read Chapters 3-6. Fill out the Character sheets from your Giver packet and annotate. Then complete questions for chapters 3-5. full sentences.

Week of 3-12-18: This week we are working on PARCC review.

Week of 3-6-2018

Over the past two weeks, we have been working on how to develop and construct an argumentative essay.

Please make sure that you have completed the following:

  • Your thesis statement/claim.
  • Three supporting details
  • Have read 8 sources and taken notes on 5.
  • All your sources information
  • The first three paragraphs to your essay completed.
  • All turned into me by e-mail.

Please use the uploaded packet for any information that you have not taken down of have lost (the set with the arm and weight)


We will be putting this on hold until next week. We will be working on putting together an example of an argumentative essay together.

Week of 2-20-2018:

Tuesday: We will take our Lesson 9 Test (Wordly Wise) and will also finish up the Roll of Thunder test for those that need to do so.

Wed: We will begin working on argumentative essays.

Thursday: We will discuss topics and how to word them to create appropriate thesis statements.

Friday: We will begin discussing how to break the writing process down and how to start off our research.


Week of 2-12-18:

Monday Lesson 9 in Wordly Wise was finished. Students were told last Friday of their test coming up on 2-20-18 over this lesson.

We took several tests this week. We took chapters 1-6 test on "Roll of Thunder and we took our final test on "We Wear a Mask".

Students were given several opportunities in class to study for their vocabulary quiz.


Week of 2-5-2018: We will read ROT and work with comprehension. Chapters 1-8 should be completed this week as chapters 1-6 have been due since January.

We will also work with Dunbar's "We wear a Mask". We will create our own mask and use figurative language.


-Week of 1--29-18: This week we will learn about Fredrick Douglass and his contribution to the slavery movement. We will discuss how the concepts found in his writing and ideologies are applied to our current novel "Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry" and to today's climate.

Goal: To be able to understand: 1. Why and HOW things endure.

2. How to Recognize figurative Language and its uses.

3. Be able to UNDERSTAND what we READ.

4. Be able to apply the concepts of slavery found in Fredrick Douglass's writings to ROT and other literary works for the week.

We will read: Fredrick Douglass's Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass, We wear a Mask by Paul Laurence Dunbar

Week of January 22: We will continue our Engage New York unit. We will be looking at the THEME of ENDURANCE. What makes things endure; specifically in literature. We will use the concept of Civil Rights to examine this Theme and will apply it to our current cultural climate.

Goal: To be able to understand: 1. Why and HOW things endure.

2. How to Recognize figurative Language and its uses.

3. Be able to UNDERSTAND what we READ.

We have read "The People Could Fly." During this reading, we discussed Figurative language. Specifically we have been using Similes and Metaphors. We also discussed how the differences of POV will effect a story.

Our Novel will be : "Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry". Each child has received their own book. They will only receive ONE book. It is imperative that they not loose it.

Homework for the weekend: READ and ANNOTATE through Chapter 6!

Week of December 4: This week we will continue working on our "picture book" stories. Students must turn in their rough draft, story boards, and their final drafts. This lesson is helping our students to gain more control over the use of TONE, MOOD, THEME, DESCRIPTIVE and FIGURATIVE languages, and the writing process.

We will finish these up on Tuesday.

WEEK OF November 1, 2017: During this week, we will begin working toward completing our first official essay. This essay will ask students to compare and contrast the essays "No Phone for Two days", and " Smartphone Hijacking."

WE WILL ALSO BE STARTING ON Compare and Contrast essay writing and CONTINUING WITH R.A.C.E SKILLS.


We will also continue working on Grammar development.

Standards:
