Ideas to promote speech and language:

  • Read, read, read! Talk about what your child is reading, ask them to summarize what they are reading. When reading, ask students wh-questions. Have them make predictions and inferences - the hows, whys, and what ifs.
  • Play games such as Head banz, Guess Who, Password, Eye Spy.
  • Talk to your child about their day. Ask them questions and listen to what they say.
  • For younger children, Nursery Rhymes and Finger Plays such as Where is Thumbkin?
  • Minimize screen time when possible
  • When reading, point out the sound that your child is working on or have them find words that have their target sound in them!
