About Me

Hello...My name is Myra Russell, very HAPPY to say that I am the English/Language Arts and Social Studies teacher on Team 7-3! I also teach So the Story goes. Chicago born and raised, a city girl at heart, I graduated from Loyola University. Outside of teaching I love to spend time with my family, travel, camp and take care of my garden. As a mom of four grown children and grandmother of two, nothing brings more joy to my life than children. I especially love the middle school age group, they are so full of wonder, curiosity, energy and personality! I look for the positive in each and every one of my students, my favorite quote by Josh Shipp: "Every Child is one caring adult away from being a success story."

POWER: One of my biggest joys, sense of pride and best moments here at Emerson Middle School. Every year I organize a program called POWER for our 8th graders here in District 64.

*What is POWER:POWER is a one-day experience, designed to develop leadership skills and promote healthy choices for our eighth graders from Lincoln and Emerson Middle Schools. POWER seeks to bring together middle school youth, community members, middle school staff, and high school leaders to develop trusting relationships as well as providing a framework for understanding ones self and others. This is accomplished through a variety of activities including small group question and answer sessions with high school leaders, motivational speakers, etc… The program also strives to teach young people the skills needed to develop healthy peer relationships, resist negative peer pressure, and promote responsible decision-making.
