School Psychologists in District 64 are responsible to deliver a wide range of school psychological services, including:
Direct Intervention:
Direct interventions for students may include individual and group counseling, skills training as well as classroom, grade level and school wide interventions to address the behavioral, social and mental health needs of students. School psychologists provide crisis intervention as needed and participate on crisis response teams. They also provide direct academic intervention as needed and appropriate.
Consultation and Collaboration:
In the area of consultation and collaboration, responsibilities may include participation in school wide and district-wide committees, and individual student collaboration with school personnel and parents (IEP, Individual Problem Soling Team, etc.) as well as grade level and class level collaboration with teachers and administrators.
Assessment and Interpretation:
School Psychologists identify and assess the learning, developmental and social-emotional characteristics and needs of individuals and groups, as well as, the environmental factors that affect learning and student functioning. Assessment data is used in developing interventions and programs. Responsibilities may often include traditional assessment of students’ cognitive, academic, learning processes, and social, emotional and behavioral functioning. The school psychologist also provides functional behavior assessment to support the development of positive behavior interventions and supports. Curriculum-based measurement and group assessment practices (e.g., benchmark assessment collection) is used in collaboration with teachers to inform instruction.
Professional Practice and Program Development:
Roles and responsibilities may include participation and leadership in committees and others teams as needed, consultation with Superintendent of Pupil Services related to RTI, Special Education, program procedures and development. School Psychologists may also provide professional development and training to school personnel, coordinate/manage school-based programs as appropriate, and expand psychological services for students and schools to meet the needs of the school community.
