Imagine what your life would be like if you awoke tomorrow morning and found that there was no water coming into your home. What would you do?
What if your water never came back on? What if the stores ran out of bottled water? What if the nearest drainage ditch became the only place you could get any water at all?
Would you begin to worry about your health?
This is not your reality. As 5th graders living in suburban Chicago, this is not our reality. But this is the tragic reality for hundreds of millions of people across the world today.
The book A Long Walk to Water opened our eyes to the global water crisis. We did not understand how so many people could be living without something so basic - clean water. So, we researched. We dug deeper. What we found was sad and unjust.
We realized we had to do something to help. Feeling sorry is not enough. Our research led us beyond just facts, to an organization called Water For South Sudan (WFSS).
Our goals are to inform others about the global water crisis and raise money to bring safe water to the people of South Sudan.
To do this we have created the D62 Iron Giraffe Challenge. We want to make a difference and we need your help!
The Iron Giraffe Challenge is where we raise money to buy a new iron giraffe to build wells in South Sudan. An Iron Giraffe is a very expensive rig used to drill wells for water. The current rig needs to be replaced in order for WFSS to continue their work.
