IESA State Wrestling Meet Information

IESA State meet will be held on March 8 & 9, 2024

This meet is only for those students that have qualified from Sectionals in order to wrestle at the State meet.

Location: Convocation Center, Northern Illinois University

SPECTATOR INFORMATION:

 The Convocation Center has a clear-bag policy: www.convocenter.niu.edu/pages/prohibited-items 

• All spectators must enter through the General Public Entrance (Entrance #2). 

• Admission doors for spectators (entrance #2) will open at 10:00 a.m. on Friday – No early admissions. 

• Admission doors for spectators open at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. 

• Daily admission fees: K-8 and senior citizens - $10; Adults - $15.00. (There has been an $5 fee added to the ticket price per NIU policy) Please note that a $5.00 parking charge has been applied to all tickets.

 • Tickets can only be purchased in person at the NIU ticket office. Ticket office will open at 9am on Friday and 7am on Saturday 

• There is no reserved seating. 

• IESA Activity Passes will NOT be accepted at the State Final Tournament. 

• ALL FANS ENTERING THE CONVOCATION CENTER WILL RECEIVE A WRISTBAND AND THIS WRISTBAND MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES. SHOULD FANS LEAVE THE BUILDING AT ANY TIME DURING THE DAY, THEY WILL BE RE-ADMITTED AS LONG AS THE WRISTBAND IS STILL ON THE WRIST OF THE INDIVIDUAL. FANS LEAVING THE FACILITY AND RETURNING WITHOUT A WRISTBAND WILL HAVE TO PAY ADMISSION TO RETURN.

 • Spectators will NOT be allowed to bring in any outside food or drink. 

• Concession stands are cashless. No cash will be accepted at the concession stands. 

• A spot for spectators to take pictures/video will be provided at each end of the main level. TRI-POD OR MONOPOD CAMERA STANDS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE CONVOCATION CENTER. 

• Handicap seating will also be available at each end of the main level. 

• STROLLERS are not allowed in the Convocation Center 

• All spectators must sit in the upper bowl throughout the entire tournament. Parents will be allowed to the lower level to take pictures during the awards ceremony.

SPECTATOR PARKING: 

• • DO NOT PARK IN RESTRICTED AREAS. 

• A parking charge of $5.00 has been added to your ticket price. 

STATE FINAL MERCHANDISE: 

• A flyer with information regarding sectional and state merchandise is included with this mailing.

 • You will need to go to the CubbyHole website to advance order your sectional and state merchandise. Please use the online sale option as it will expedite the sale of T-shirts a great deal if you pre-order: www.cubbyholeonline.com 

• Pre-ordered merchandise will be picked up onsite at the Convocation Center. 

• There is no longer a team pre-order. • T-Shirts and other apparel will be on sale at the state site. 

• ALL PRE-ORDERS ARE DONE ON AN INDIVIDUAL. PLEASE GIVE YOUR PARENTS THE LINK TO THE CUBBYHOLE SO THEY CAN PRE-ORDER AND THEN PICK -UP ON SITE AT THE CONVOCATION CENTER

3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Fifth-Sixth & Third-Fourth Place Matches (8 mats--All 5th -6 th place matches completed before start of 3rd -4 th place matches)

4:45 p.m. Parade of Champions (Two Finalists in Each Weight Class Only) 

5:15 p.m. Championship Matches (4 Mats) 

Order of championship matches: 85 & 90; 95 & 100; 105 & 112; 119 & 126; 135 & 145; 155 & 167; 185 & 215: 275 & 65; 70 & 75; 80. 

Please Note: Times are approximate and are subject to change. Matches may begin no earlier than 30 minutes from the scheduled starting time. All wrestling will take place in the Convocation Center on the campus of Northern Illinois University. 

CONSOLATION BRACKET CRITERIA

Note 1:  All wrestlers who are beaten in the championship bracket move to the consolation bracket (except 2nd place). 

Note 2:  If consolation bracket qualifiers have wrestled one another in the championship bracket, wrestlers will re‐wrestle  to  determine  who  advances.    There  are  no  walkovers.  The  losers  of  the  championship  bracket  quarterfinal  matches in the top half of the bracket will be placed in the bottom bracket of the second round wrestlebacks  while  the  losers  of  the  championship  bracket  quarterfinal  matches  in  the  bottom  half  of  the  championship  bracket will be placed in the top bracket of the second round wrestlebacks. 

 Note 3:  All wrestlers will wrestle two matches on Friday. Of the 16 wrestlers in each weight class, four will be eliminated  on Friday. There will be 12 wrestlers remaining in each weight class after the conclusion of wrestling on Friday  and all 12 will wrestle at least once on Saturday.


Individual awards for 1st – 6th places will be presented by the coach of each weight class champion following the title bout  in each weight class with team awards at conclusion of meet.  All wrestlers who place in each weight class are required  to report to the awards area following the championship match in their respective weight class for presentation of  individual awards to be followed by a group photograph of the place finishers in each weight class.  All first‐place  finishers are to stay in uniform and report following the 135 lb. class individual presentations for a group photograph of  all weight class champions. A photographer will be available to photograph each weight class and team champions.
