Approach: National Geographic Reach for Reading uses a balanced literacy approach
- In a Whole Group setting children are explicitly taught reading strategies through grade level stories using a reading anthology.
- In a Guided Reading setting students read leveled guiding reading materials that meet their individual needs as readers. They are guided throughout the small group lesson by a teacher to make deeper meaning of the text presented in each book.
- In a Partner Reading setting students read, and apply reading skills while analyzing various texts.
- Each week students learn science or social studies vocabulary words that fit the unit theme or vocabulary skills that promotes wider word recognition.
