The Special Education Services

Our Occupational Therapists (OT) work to enhance students’ abilities to fully access and be successful in their learning environment. This includes working on fine motor skills including grasp and school tool usage, handwriting, self care tasks and working with the child’s teacher to make modifications. OTs also help students process sensory information to be more available for learning.

Our Physical Therapist (PT) uses her unique expertise in movement and function to promote motor development, motor control and coordination; to assess environment and seating, and to provide physical adaptations and strategies. School-based PTs focus on functional mobility and safe, efficient access and participation in activities and routines in natural learning environments of students.

Our School Psychologist works closely with the special education and general education staff, and plays a major role in problem solving efforts and the implementation of a Multitiered System of Supports.

Our School Social Worker is a link between school, home, and the community who helps students with social, emotional, and/or behavioral needs. Our social worker works with children individually and in groups, as well as in the classroom.

Our Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) are responsible for the prevention, evaluation and treatment of communication disorders. Communication disorders commonly seen in the school setting include: articulation/ phonological disorders, expressive, receptive, and pragmatic language delays, and speech fluency difficulties.

Our Special Education Teachers provided instruction in a small group environment. Students are grouped with children having similar learning profiles. Some students may require this level of support in only one subject area, while some students may require this level of support in multiple academic areas. Some students may require social/emotional, organizational, or executive functioning supports. These small classes utilize instructional materials and learning approaches that encourage the learner to move at his/her own pace in the curriculum. Interventions are provided through a collaborative approach by general education teachers, special education teachers, and related service providers.
