Grading categories 🅰️
30%: Interpretive Reading & Listening
The interpretive mode of communication measures how well you understand spoken language or written authentic texts. There is no opportunity to interact with others, so you must be able to understand it on your own.
30%: Interpersonal Speaking / Partner Conversations
The interpersonal mode of communication measures how well you speak the language with someone. You exchange information in natural ways-- you do not have a chance to memorize conversations or dialogues.
30%: Presentational Writing
The presentational mode of communication allows you to think about what you will say or write. When writing, you may have time to draft and revise before producing a final product. When speaking, you may be able to rehearse and/or to record multiple times until you are satisfied with the final product.
10%: Learning Checks
Grades in this category reflect the preparation work that you will do to be ready to use French in real world ways. In-class work, vocabulary, and grammar quizzes count in this category.

Homework 📝
The homework every day is to review vocabulary - at least five minutes - from our lessons in any way the student chooses. The only other homework students may have is to finish any work from class that was not completed.
Translators
Students are encouraged to use resources like notes, online dictionaries (Word Reference), and their textbooks to help them complete assignments. However, students will be asked to re-do work any work that has been copied and/or completed using a translator. Students will receive a 0.1 as a grade until the work has been redone. Typing a word or phrase into Google is the use of a translator. Typing ‘how do you say’ into the search bar is the use of a translator.
Additionally, students may receive consequences for regularly submitting work that is not their own.
Absent work
Students are responsible for their work when they are ill or otherwise unable to attend. Please check the absent folder and check in with a classmate. If you still need clarification, then you should email Ms. Howard.
*Missing work will be marked as a 0.1 and missing in the grade book. Students generally receive one day per day of absence to make up work. Feeling behind and stressed out? See Ms. Howard to help you come up with a plan!
