Hey there, and welcome to a brand-new school year at Thunder Mountain Elementary! I’m super excited to be your school counselor. My job is to team up with teachers and parents to help students grow socially and emotionally, and to make sure nothing gets in the way of their learning.
I’ve got some fun lessons and activities planned that will teach important life skills and help all students have an awesome year. I teach classroom lessons each class about once every six weeks to each class during our Friday specials rotations.
Any student can request to come see me for a quick, informal chat if something’s on their mind — usually once or twice is fine. If a student needs a bit more support, I’ll reach out to their parents or send home a permission slip. Just so you know, school counseling isn’t meant to replace community mental health services, but I’m happy to help connect families with those if needed. My main focus is helping students do well socially and academically here at school.
I’ll also be running small groups where kids can work with others who might be going through similar stuff, like dealing with grief, changes at home, making friends, or managing feelings. Students join these groups if their teacher, parent, or they themselves ask to be part of them. We make sure group times don’t interrupt class too much, and of course, parents have to give permission.
Looking forward to a great year together!
