Principal's Corner
Fruita Fam! We are rolling along with only one week left in February. Then, we start the end of the year stretch. My how fast it goes.
Select 8th grade students participated in NAEP testing this week. Schools are selected randomly by the state of Colorado, and this year was our year. It only took one day, and proctors were very complimentary of our students. I.A. Testing begins next week with 8th Grade Math on Monday and Tuesday, 6th/7th Grade ELA on Wednesday and Thursday, and 8th Grade Science on Thursday.
Wrestling pictures will take place on Tuesday, February 24th after school at 4:00PM. On Wednesday, February 25th, all 8th Grade students will be taking a walking field trip to Fruita Monument High School to see their Spring Drama Production. This will give our students exposure to the HS Drama Program, and potentially spark some interest in students to get involved in Drama at the High School next year. There is a band concert to be held on Wednesday, February 25th at the Old Fruita Middle School Auditorium located at 239 Maple St. starting at 6:30PM.
Have a great weekend!

The first newspaper issue of the second semester is officially here! Fruita Feed
Our staff is especially excited about this one because it features a brand-new group of reporters who have immediately picked up where we left off. They’ve been working hard these past few weeks to tell stories that matter, make you think, and some may even make you laugh out loud.
A few highlights you won’t want to miss include a powerful piece exploring the real impacts of bullying, an honest and thoughtful story about insecurities, and feature articles on everything from the impact of AI to life with a mouthful of braces. There are also incredible photos capturing all things FMS, some creative and slightly ridiculous fake news, plus interactive polls and our latest find-the-object challenge (keep an eye out for hearts this month). We think there’s truly something for everyone, and the students would love to know you’re reading along.
We also want to thank you for your continued flexibility and support, as we know this paper wouldn’t have happened without you all.
Happy reading!

Pick Up & Drop Off
Please review the Pick Up & Drop-Off Guidelines for FMS. The first few days of school can cause quite a log jam so please be patient and remember we are next to a high school with new drivers. Safety First!
Parents - a couple of Drop-off/Pick-up procedures to clear up:
Once students arrive on campus for the day, they are not allowed to leave campus to walk to Maverik or other areas off campus.
Do not use the west lot in front of the school. That is designated for staff parking.
Do not drive on the Canal Road
Do not park along the sidewalk curb on the northwest side of the building. This area is designated for Special Education pick-up, and it doesn't leave the buses enough space.
Only drop-off or pick-up in the East lot or the East drop off loop. The Main Bus Loop and the staff parking lot is NOT for pick up and drop off
When exiting the parking lot after school, at the corner of J Road and Fremont, please ONLY turn right or go straight through the neighborhood. Please do not turn left. You will be turning directly into kids crossing in the crosswalk, and it's a safety issue. We are trying to wave cars through to clear the parking lot as quickly as we can. If you are waiting to turn left, it backs traffic up. Turning left just puts more cars into the already hectic High School traffic.
The district has a goal of achieving a 95% attendance rate for middle schools. We will be showing our weekly attendance rate in the Friday Facts each week. February 20: 90.07%
All D51 Middle Schools use Schoology as the platform for students and parents to see their class progress. Take a few minutes with your students this weekend to look over Schoology (available to students in Classlink).
6th Grade Parents and 7th & 8th Grade New Parents, you should have or will receive an email inviting you to set up a Schoology account.
If you need help with Schoology, including receiving a new code if you deleted the first email, you can complete the FMS Schoology Help Form on our Schoology Help Page
FMS Schoology Help Form: Fill this out if you can't access your student, are having trouble creating an account etc.
