Principal's Corner

Happy Friday, Fruita Fam! The last full week before Spring Break! Just a reminder that we are offering academic tutoring each Monday after school in Mrs. Hirsch's room (121) and each Thursday after school in Mr. Basinger's room (206). No need to sign up, just show up!

Next Wednesday, March 13th marks the end of the 3rd Academic Quarter. There will be no school on Thursday, March 14th (Teacher's Inservice) or Friday, March 15th (Teacher Work Day). Spring Break will run from March 18-22.

Today is the due date for Track and Field paperwork, and we want to fill out our squad. Please get your paperwork in by Monday, March 11. There is a Choir concert on Monday, March 11th, and the District Wrestling Tournament runs on Tuesday, March 12th & Wednesday, March 13th at FMHS. Good luck to all wrestlers!

The Spring Dance will be next Wednesday starting at 2:00PM. We will be on an Assembly Schedule that day. Have a fantastic weekend!

Changes to Chromebook Check Out

In preparation for the 4th Quarter, we are updating our practice on the checking out of chromebooks and chargers to students. On Monday, March 11, all students will be required to return their chromebooks and chargers. When we return from Spring Break, students will have access to chromebooks in classes (similar to the elementary schools & many middle schools).

We are moving to this model as a pilot program to see if this system will work for us in the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. This will also help us this year in preparation for CMAS Testing to make sure students have the technology they need.

Please have your students remove any stickers they have put on the chromebook and charger and wipe them down. Alcohol based wipes will remove residue.

Chromebooks and chargers will be available for students to check out if they are going on vacation or are ill for an extended period of time. Those can be checked out with the Library.

The Fruita Middle School Yearbook Committee has successfully finished and submitted the 2023-2024 Yearbook!

For the next several months our creation will be printed and bound. Our submission also means that we had to give Jostens our final copy count. If you ordered a yearbook-your child's copy was included in that!

If you did not order a yearbook-there is still a chance! The Yearbook Committee ordered 50 extra copies to be sold until SUPPLIES run out! You still have two ways to order: jostensyearbooks.com or send your student with cash or check to Mrs. Johnson in room 104. But once they are gone-they are gone! Don't delay for your very last chance to get a copy of the Yearbook!

SOS Presentation Information

Date Change: One March 26 & 27, 7th Grade Students ONLY will attend a presentation in one of their classes about Signs of Suicide (SOS). To proactively address these issues, Fruita Middle School offers a depression awareness and suicide prevention training through the SOS (Signs of Suicide) Middle School Program. It has proven successful at increasing help-seeking by students concerned about themselves or a friend and is the only school-based suicide prevention program to show a reduction in suicide attempts in a randomized, controlled study (American Journal of Public Health, March 2004).

We have the following goals for students participating in the presentation:

If you do NOT wish for your 7th Grade Student to participate in the SOS Training, please complete the bottom of this form and click Submit. This must be completed by Friday, March 15 at 8am. If you have any questions please contact Rosanna Romero, FMS Counselor at Rosanna.Romero@d51schools.org or at 970-254-6570.
