is a simple tool that can be used instantly. By creating a class and letting your students join, everyone will get a digital whiteboard. You as a teacher see all your students' whiteboards in real time, so you can follow their progress. The students only see their own whiteboard and the teacher's.
When you go to the website, you are met with the option to either start a new class or join a class. Teachers will select “New Class.” Then give your class a name and click “Create class.” You will automatically receive a URL and code that you can provide to students. Whiteboard.fi does not require students to create an account.
When students join, they enter their name. This is the only way they can identify themselves in the activity. On the student’s end, students can see their teacher’s whiteboard and can toggle to the other tab to see their own.
The teacher and students can work within their own whiteboards, using the tools on the side to support their work. The students can toggle back to their teacher’s whiteboard to see the work they are doing and the teacher can toggle to the “my class” tab to see all of their students’ boards in one location.
If a teacher clicks on the individual student whiteboard, they can see a full-screen version of the student’s work and can write on the board themselves. They also have options, including:
Save: save student whiteboard as image
Erase: clear a student's whiteboard
Push: pushes the teacher’s whiteboard to that individual student
Copy: copies student work immediately to your whiteboard
Kick: removes the person from the activity immediately
One feature of Whiteboard.fi is the ability for the teacher to push their whiteboard to the class. Once the teacher has written a problem or task on the board, it can instantly be sent to every student in the room. This option allows students to work on the problem independently, while the teacher can monitor their progress and provide support by writing on the student’s individual board. The teacher can go in, write on top of their work, and add text feedback that could be helpful as the students work independently.
Enable waiting lobby: force students to wait before entering
Lock room: prevents new students from joining
Enable image upload: allows students to upload an image
Enable slow mode: good for students with slow wifi or devices
Force simple mode: removes advanced features for students
Hide student names: best if you are going to share your screen
Clear all whiteboards: clear ALL students' whiteboards
Save all whiteboards: saves as a PDF
Close room: ends the session
You will see your students' work in real time!
