The culminating activity for our social studies economics unit will be “Market Day”, which will be Friday, May 16th. Each student is to work at home to create a product to sell at “Market Day.” Please note that students will be using play money to buy their goods, so whatever your child decides they want to make and market should not be a big out-of-pocket expense for you and should be made by the student.
Helpful tips and information for Market Day!
There are approximately 120 students in 3rd grade. When your child decides what they would like to make and how many, please separate them into 5 separate batches so students in each of the 5 classes will have an opportunity to shop at your child’s business.
Students will determine the cost of their item in class. We will be learning about supply and demand, so students will be adjusting prices throughout the day as they see what the demand is on their product.
Some examples of products from previous years are: pet rocks, water bottle piggy banks, comic books, handmade pencil toppers, crafts, silly-band bracelets, etc. Products can be as simple or as creative as you like! Their product must be made and not store bought. Please no food products.
