Redesigning the Learning Space

Learning about space as the third teacher has been very enlightening. Because the computer lab I teach in is very static, it is challenging to change it up very much. However, I am looking forward to returning to school this week (we’ve been on spring break during this course timeframe) and make more changes. I already started “spring cleaning” to reduce clutter, but I will make additional changes. Students will be in this space taking state assessments for the next month. I think their focus will improve without the distraction of clutter. Cleanliness is also a factor. Students notice the changes made. I will remove more clutter (books on bookshelves, the bookshelves themselves, equipment that’s been stored but not used, etc.) Creating a more aesthetic, comfortable, flexible learning space will improve their productivity.
