Hello eveyone! Wow, it is hard to believe that we are finishing up the first trimester! Not only have our 7 Gold ELA students read around 700 books they are doing great things in the classroom. We are so incredibly proud of them!
Ms. Lamberti's class has wrapped up their independent stories. They took everything that they learned from Unit 1 and applied it to their work. They are starting Whole Group Unit 5 on Monday.
Mrs. Foster's class is presenting their Shark Tank preesentations this week and we just wrapped up poetry. We will be finishing Unit 1 this week with our independent stories!
So many great things are happening in all of the classes. As always, please contact us if you have any more questions.

Welcome everyone!
In Social Studies, we are starting our unit on the Illinois Constitution. Next week students are going to use a map of Illinois to find some political and geographic highlights of Illinois. We will follow up this unit with the last of the constitution tests. Students will get a study guide, Blooket, and a Kahoot to help them study. All late work for Trimester 1 is due on November 12th.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Amanda Hull

Hello Everyone!
As we approach the end of the trimester, I wanted to share an update on what we’ve been working on in math class. We have just completed our Unit 2 End-of-Unit Assessment, which focused on key concepts such as scale drawings and proportional relationships.
Throughout this unit, students have explored how to identify and represent proportional relationships in various contexts. We’ve placed a strong emphasis on understanding the constant of proportionality (k) and how to represent proportional relationships using the equation y = kx. Students have applied this understanding to real-world examples, including scaling and comparing quantities.
In Unit 3: Measuring Circles, students will be applying skills from unit 2 to find the relationship between the diameter and circumference of circles. Students will also generate methods for solving multistep problems involving circumference and area.
Advanced Math: Our current unit focuses on proportinal and linear relationships. Students are analyzing situations, graphs and equations to find unit rate, slope, and proportional vs. non-proportional relationships. Our first quiz for this unit will be Tuesday, November 11.
Please take a moment to check your student’s grades in Infinite Campus to ensure all assignments are completed and submitted. The grading deadline for any missing or late work is Wednesday, November 12.
Math Homework Club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays after school till 4:30 in Mr. Beltran's room.
Homework Club for all other subjects meets Monday-Thursday till 4:30 in the GMS Library.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support in helping your student succeed in math!

Dear parents/guardians,
We just finished our The Plastic Tide unit assessment and our students did a great work on summarizing what they learned about the plastic materials. Even they completed their final test, they still have a couple of days to submit their late work or test corrections if they want to. Please note that the last day to accept any late work is Nov 12th.
I believe that you may see your child take home a toy made by themselves in science time. Please ask them how they made it and what it is. Please don't be surprised if they may ask you to try as well.
Starting next week, we will start our new unit : Science on the Main Stage. This is a lab based unit, which means we will have a lot of labs coming. I understand that some students may enjoy doing labs, some not. I am sure that students will learn a lot of practicial skills through hands-on experiments. If you happen to have time, please encourage your child to talk about our labs and let them explain what they do at school.
Lastly, as always, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. I am here to help out.
Thank you,
Hannah Zhang

Hello families! My name is Jennifer Everett and I’m the Reading Specialist working with your 7th grader this year. I’m excited to support their growth as readers and help them build confidence and strategies that last a lifetime.
Quick Tip: Encourage your child to talk about what they’re reading, even just a quick “What’s happening in your book?” at dinner or in the car. Talking about books makes reading more meaningful and fun!

A Note About
PANTHER BLOCK
Panther Block is the first part of our day at GMS. During this time, students may attend band, choir, or specific individual interventions. Our school-wide focus for all students in a team-based WIN class is improvement in mathematics. Many students have the opportunity to work with their math teacher individually and in small groups, participate in reteaching of concepts learned in math class, and build skills that will prepare them for future success in math class. In addition, all GMS students have access to online math skill-building tools. For most students, those two tools are MATHia (connected to our grade level math resource) and DreamBox (a game-like tool that adapts to students' individual math performance), but can include many other online math tools determined by students' needs.

Mrs. Sell - sell.samantha@d46.org
For semester 1, the structure of our class will include center activities focused on developing writing skills, sustained silent reading, summary writing, and targeted skill instruction through IXL, followed by whole-group instructions using the My Perspectives curriculum.
As we continue our work in Unit 1 we are engaged in reading the paired texts, An Invisible Thread and A Simple Act. Students will compare and contrast the paired text, including looking at media to draw additional details from.
Please remember to review infinite campus and google classroom with your student. Ask them to show you the work they are most proud of!
Samantha Sell

As a reminder, students have the option to correct work for additional credit, including assessments. Students can request a pass to see me during Panther Block, and I also incorporate time into class for corrections following the assessments.
We just completed our unit on integers, with a focus on comparing, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing positive and negative numbers.
For our real-world application project between units, students are applying their application skills, along with using calculation skills with all four operations, to use a given budget to plan a 3 day meal plan using grocery store ads.
Our next unit of study will focus on unit rate, ratios, and proportions.
Please remember to review infinite campus and google classroom with your student. Ask them to show you the work they are most proud of!
