Please review the following classroom policies and expectations with your child so we can work together to have a successful year. Thank you in advance for your support and partnership at home!
Your child will fill out their Planner and use their Home Folder daily for transporting classwork that needs to be finished at home, graded work, notes, reminders, etc. Please check both your child's Planner and their Home Folder with them every night. Developing this daily routine will help your child stay organized, keep track of responsibilities, and build good work habits throughout the school year!
5th grade students bring their Chromebooks home each day. Please help your child build the daily habit of charging their Chromebook at home each night and then putting it in their backpack to bring back to school each morning.
Students are strongly encouraged to bring a water bottle to school every day. Clear water only, no flavoring or other beverages please.
Your child is welcome to bring in a treat to celebrate their birthday with the class! As stated in the handbook, any food items must be store bought and include nutritional information.
We believe learning to use time wisely is an important part of becoming an independent and responsible student. Students are expected to stay focused, participate actively, and make good use of classroom learning time. Students who are engaged and using their time appropriately should generally be able to complete assigned work during the school day.
If work is not completed during the allotted class time, students may be expected to finish it at home and return it the following day. This expectation helps students develop important skills such as time management, organization, responsibility, and independence. These are skills that will become increasingly important as they transition to junior high and beyond.
While we do not assign traditional homework, at-home practice is an important part of reinforcing learning and building strong academic habits. At-home practice may include reading, practicing math facts or skills, reviewing concepts, or completing unfinished classroom work. Our goal is to help students develop the confidence and independence they need to take ownership of their learning.
Students are responsible for completing and turning in their work on time to receive proper credit.
I enter grades in TeacherEase throughout the week. If an assignment is missing, it will be entered as a 0 until the completed work is turned in.
When a student is absent, they will have as many days as they were absent to make up any missing work at home.
If a student earns a D or an F on an assignment or assessment, they are expected to make corrections and turn it back in for an adjusted grade. Students are encouraged to ask for extra help when needed! I want students to learn to advocate for themselves, ask questions, and seek support when they do not understand something.
Our 5T Classroom Rules align with our schoolwide SOAR & Succeed Behavior Expectations. When we SOAR, we are: Safe, On Task, Accountable, and Respectful. It is very important that all students follow our classroom rules and expectations so that we can maintain a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment where everyone can learn and succeed.
Consequences for not following expectations align with the Code of Conduct outlined in the Student Handbook. Depending on the behavior and circumstances, consequences may include a verbal reminder, visual warning, behavior reflection, parent contact, and principal referral. If a student's behavior is dangerous or extremely disruptive, they will be removed from the classroom immediately and sent to the principal's office.
Positive behavior is recognized with praise, Hawk Prides, individual rewards, and classroom parties. My goal is to encourage students to make good choices, take responsibility for their actions, and contribute positively to our classroom community!
