Classroom Rules
Students will work together to make a list of expectations for the classroom. Expectations and procedures will be explicitly taught in the classroom.
Students who follow expectations will earn Hawk Prides to use at our Hawk Pride Store. The whole class will work together to earn rewards such as extra recess, pajama day, or other incentives.
We will use logical consequences when it comes to a student who doesn't follow expectations. I have information below on how this would look in the classroom. Students will be given a warning first. If the behavior continues, then a logical consequence will be given.
If a student misuses a tool, equipment, or privilege (like using math manipulatives as projectile weapons!), the direct consequence is that they temporarily lose access to that privilege or equipment. This focuses on respect for materials and the logical connection: if you misuse a resource, you show that you are not yet ready to manage it.
Both behaviors involve a breakdown in connection to the group. The logical consequence is a separation from the group, starting with a time-out within the classroom. This is not about shaming, but about providing a quiet moment for the student to reset.
When students spend independent work time chatting or off-task, they aren’t just “goofing off”; they are “stealing” time they need to meet their learning goals. The logical consequence is that they must make that time up.
If a student has been working but simply processes slower, logical consequences don’t apply. But if a student has had plenty of instruction and opportunity but has chosen not to finish, the direct consequence is that they finish the assignment at a later time. This reinforces the value of diligence and completing tasks on time.
