Rose Augsburg-Drach
Rose Augsburg-Drach, 35, an educator in the western suburbs who family members said had a soothing presence inside and outside the classroom, died Friday at her Aurora home after a long battle with cancer. Mrs. Augsburg-Drach was born on Dec. 9, 1963, in Monroe, Wis., where she attended elementary and high school. She earned a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1986. The same year, Mrs. Augsburg-Drach came to Illinois and taught children with special needs at Aurora East High School, where she worked until 1988. For the next seven years, she taught at St. Charles High School, where she met her husband, Buck Drach, who is head football coach. In 1995, she earned a master's degree in education administration from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. She then went to work at Naperville Central High School, where she was dean of students, a position she held until her death. The legacy she leaves to the children she taught and to her own children and family is her gentle manner. "She really touched everyone she met," said her brother-in-law Terry Casey. "She was really soothing, especially with the kids with special needs." It seemed natural when she became a workshop instructor for conflict-resolution and peer mediation during her education career, family members said. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Augsburg-Drach is survived by a son, Brandon Augsburg; a stepdaughter, Emily Drach; a stepson, Jonathan Drach; her parents, Peter and Colleen Hasler; three sisters, Ann Voegeli, Margaret Monte and Kathryn Casey; and a brother, Fred Hasler.
