Recruitment

Welcome to the band program!

The Band program is open to all 5th-grade students.  Band instruments include the flute, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba, and percussion.  You can learn more about the instruments in the videos below.

General Information:

MORNING BAND REHEARSALS

Students participate in full band rehearsals before school at 8:00AM once per week.  Families are responsible for transporting band members to the rehearsal site.  Students should bring their instrument and music book to class.

SMALL GROUP LESSONS

Students have a 40-minute lesson each week during the school day. Lessons give directors time to work more closely with each student to improve fundamentals and music literacy skills.  Lessons will always be on the same day of the week, but times will rotate so that students don't miss the same instructional content each week.

CONCERTS

Concerts typically occur in December and May on stage at East High School.  There are other optional performance opportunities throughout the year as well, such as assemblies, and a Kane County Cougars Game.

INSTRUMENTS

Students need an instrument in good playing condition with the appropriate accessories (like reeds).  To rent an instrument, contact Quinlan & Fabish at https://www.qandf.com or 800-63-SOUSA.  If your family qualifies for free/reduced lunch, you also qualify for reduced instrument rentals through the District.  Contact Mrs. Lydigsen if you want to learn more about this option (jennifer.lydigsen@d303.org).

MATERIALS NEEDED

Students will also require the book Accent on Achievement Book 1 and a folding music stand.  These items can be obtained from Quinlan & Fabish as well.
