About Me:
This is the letter I give to my students on the first day of class so they get to know me a little better.
Hello!
I happened to have been born and raised right here in St. Charles, IL. I even took my first breaths at the original Delnor Hospital. After my years at Wild Rose Elementary, I spent my middle school days in this building (North) when it was still called Wredling and then spent one year at ‘St. Charles High School’ before the split. I actually met my future wife in my junior year US History class, and well, the rest is history. I am grateful to have been in the first graduating class here at SCN and am thrilled to now be working here as your teacher.
Other than college I have lived my entire life in the Chicago suburbs (I now live in Geneva). I am a proud alumna of the University of Wisconsin-Madison (Go Badgers!). In college I majored in history and political science and played in the UW Marching Band and Varsity Band (basketball & hockey bands). My senior year I also had the opportunity to intern for a US Senator in his campaign office in Madison. After earning my degree I returned to Chicago-land and enrolled at National-Louis University to earn my teaching certificate and master’s degree. In 2013 I earned my National Board Certification and am always looking for new ways to become a better teacher.
This is my 12th year teaching here at North. For the last nine years I was the JV Boys’ Volleyball coach and love to announce basketball and volleyball games as well. My family is very important to me; my wife Amanda is a labor and delivery nurse and we are the proud parents of an energetic and always sweet and entertaining four-year-old, Carter. Carter loves to play baseball and is a huge Cubs fan. Our second son, Cole, was born 4/4/16 and he loves to climb and play outside. We are loving life as a family of four. Both of my parents were teachers and I wouldn’t be here without them. I have one older brother and he and his wife are two of my closest, best friends.
One of my favorite quotes is “The more you learn, the more you learn you don’t know.” To me, that’s exciting- I tend to be very curious and passionate, and this quote makes me think there is always a new door to open and inspiring new discoveries to be made. I am always looking to improve, grow and learn and I expect the same approach from my students. Just like in a democracy, in our class everyone’s voice matters. For this reason I not only expect students to always show respect but I am also excited to see all the great contributions you add to our class.
Keep your eyes and minds open, it’s going to be a great year.
All the best,
Mr. Jacobsen
